Career Training

In addition to academic training, Joliet Job Corps provides career technical training in several vocational trades.

Job Corps is committed to the development of green job training. All students who enter in Advanced Manufacturing, Automotive, or Construction career technical training areas will train in a variety of green subject areas. These career areas are marked below with a green tree icon Green trade.

Business Office Technology

The Business Office Technology (BOT) program prepares our students for careers in tomorrow’s modern offices. The BOT program prepares students for entry level office support positions. Graduates of the BOT program also receive Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certifications.

Certified Nursing Assistant

Our Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program includes classroom instruction, hands-on training at facilities, workplace skills, CPR training, and the basics of health care. Students who complete the CNA program are eligible to take the Illinois State Board Exam in order to become a Registered Nursing Assistant.

Culinary Arts

In the Culinary Arts program, our students learn how important safety and preparation is to a good meal. Students cook as well as present their creations to staff, students, and visitors on a regular basis. Upon completion of this training, our Culinary Arts students leave ready for the world of food service.

Facilities Maintenance

Our Facilities Maintenance program offers students an opportunity to learn electrical, plumbing and carpentry skills while understanding the basics of overall maintenance. Students get the chance to work on a variety of projects including building rehabilitation and even new construction. Students are trained by journey-level instructors for a minimum of 800 hours with a real work environment in mind.

Pharmacy Technician

Students in the Pharmacy Technician (PT) program learn the duties of a pharmacy technician as well as pharmaceutical terminology. Students are also provided hands-on training through our partnership with CVS Pharmacy. Upon completing the PT program, our students are eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Test (PTCB) for Illinois.

Security/Military Career Preparation

Our Security/Military Career Preparation (MILCAP) program is designed to prepare students for careers in security and in the United States Armed Forces.

Security Officer students must pass criminal background checks and will receive training on items such as basic patron rights and applicable state laws, radio communication, the 10 code, and proper pepper spray use. Students also have the opportunity to receive their 20 hour unarmed security certification, Permanent Employment Registration Card (PERC), CPR training, and first aid training.

The MILCAP program is is open to all our students, especially those who have a serious interest in the U. S. military. Students enrolled in MILCAP receive training in areas such as physical fitness, military marching, drills, and cadence calling, ceremony preparation, military rank structure, and Armed Services Vocational Aptitude/Achievement Battery (ASVAB) preparation.

Tile Setting

Students in our Tile Setting program are in the Pre-Apprenticeship phase of the International Masonry Institute. Students learn all aspects of tile setting including job preparation and installation methods using a variety of tools, equipment, and materials. Tile Setting students also learn employability skills such as dependability, punctuality, team work, and initiative.
